Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Chris Reeves, an experienced multidisciplinary designer born and raised in Houston, Texas. I have nearly a decade of experience in UX design, and a career in design spanning 20 yrs collectively. In recent years, I've mainly served in a leadership capacity for several teams and projects, but over the years have been an individual contributor in a number of roles such as interaction designer, visual designer, user researcher/usability tester, multimedia designer, and front-end web dev.
I help businesses humanize technology and take a user-centric approach to their design solutions. I am as passionate about understanding my users as I am about crafting beautiful and intuitive
interfaces. I take great satisfaction in partnering with business leads, customers, developers, and other designers to create great experiences for web, desktop, and mobile. Not everyone finds their calling in life, but I have. Simply put, I love what I do!
My Design Philosophy
I am naturally inquisitive and love to uncover the “why/how” as much as I love to design. This inquisitiveness is what lead me to UX design and has allowed me to excel at multiple design disciplines. The name of my site, MODCOLLECTIV,
comes from a combination of the words “mod” and “collective”, and is a reflection of just that. In our fast-paced modern age, it’s not enough to be good at one thing but one should become an aggregate of critical discplines
and skills. I believe that to be a truly effective designer, to understand the design and its real impact, you have to understand the users and be versed in many disciplines. It also happens to make you more flexible in roles
and turns you into a force-multiplier.
Good design is universal, regardless of whether it’s for the web, mobile, print, or industrial design. It should push boundaries, provoke thought, or unveil new modes of use. Despite all that, I believe design should be practical
given the situation. Any number of factors can impact a design or its implementation at any point in the process. I’m happy to say that I have a good deal of experience balancing “next-level” design with the realities of both
user and business needs.
Geek Dad, Etc
I’m a family man at heart, and as my wife would tell you, still a big kid myself. I have a lovely wife and 3 awesome kiddos. We’re big scifi/fantasy fans in this house and whether it’s Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, superhero
movies, or a cheesy 80’s action movie, it’s all good to us. We’re also gamers, enjoying PC games as well as pen and paper RPGs and tabletop wargames. Apart from my interests in all things design and tech, I happen to also
be a huge history and archaeology buff. I’m a big foodie with a particular fondness for Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. I enjoy cooking and grilling. I also enjoy martial arts, upland bird hunting, and I am an active member
in our local church.
